A giant poster of Martyr Yahya Sinwar, the head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS), was hung on the historic city walls by a group of young people.

Yahya Sinvar, a significant figure in the Palestinian resistance and a key leader of HAMAS, was martyred in Gaza on October 16, 2024, after a clash with Israeli forces. His martyrdom deeply grieved the Islamic world, particularly those devoted to the Palestinian struggle for liberation. In response to the tragic news, funeral prayers in absentia were held across Türkiye, and press statements were issued to condemn the ongoing genocide.

In Diyarbakır, a city historically linked to Islamic resistance and home to the descendants of Saladin Ayyubi, young people expressed their loyalty to the Palestinian cause by displaying the giant poster of Yahya Sinwar at Küpeli Gate, one of the gates of the ancient city walls. This act symbolized the enduring support of the Kurdish Muslim population for the Palestinian struggle.

Diyarbakır’s youth have previously shown their unwavering commitment to the Palestinian resistance, having raised posters of other key figures like Abu Obeida, the spokesman for the Qassam Brigades, and Ismail Haniyeh, one of HAMAS's leaders. The city’s walls, which have witnessed centuries of history, now serve as a powerful canvas for this modern expression of unity and defiance against Israeli oppression.

This gesture reflects the continued resonance of the Palestinian cause among the Muslim Kurdish people of Diyarbakır, who see themselves as part of the wider Islamic struggle for justice. The city's youth, in particular, carry forward this legacy of resistance, following in the footsteps of Saladin Ayyubi, who famously led the liberation of Jerusalem.

In flying Sinwar’s poster on the ancient walls, the people of Diyarbakır once again demonstrated that their solidarity with Palestine remains steadfast, and their support for the martyrs of the resistance unshakable. (ILKHA)
