Türkiye's agricultural input price index rises by 33.25% annually in August

The Agricultural Input Price Index (Agricultural-IPI) for Türkiye saw a significant increase of 33.25% year-on-year in August 2024, according to official figures.

The index, which uses 2020 as its base year, also rose by 1.39% compared to the previous month and by 22.33% since December 2023. Additionally, the 12-month moving averages show a 43.15% increase.

Breaking down the data, goods and services currently consumed in agriculture rose by 0.99% on a monthly basis, while goods and services contributing to agricultural investments jumped by 3.75%. Over the past year, goods and services currently consumed in agriculture experienced a 30.90% increase, while those contributing to agricultural investments surged by 48.51%.

Among the subgroups, veterinary expenses saw the highest annual increase, surging by 74.09%. On a monthly basis, the cost of seeds and planting stock rose the most, with a 4.62% increase.

These rising input costs present significant challenges to the agricultural sector, potentially affecting production and food prices across the country. (ILKHA)
