His comments were made in a letter addressed to the 2024 annual awards dinner of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and were broadcast by state media outlet CCTV on Wednesday.

"China is willing to be a partner and friend with the United States. This will benefit not only the two countries, but the world," Xi said. He underscored the global significance of U.S.-China relations, describing them as one of the most critical bilateral relationships, with implications for the future of humanity.

The remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the two countries, which have been at odds over various issues, including national security concerns, trade disputes, and China's actions in the South China Sea, as well as heightened military activity around Taiwan.

Trade relations between the U.S. and China have deteriorated over the past year, with key disputes centering on restrictions involving electric vehicles and advanced semiconductors.

Despite these challenges, President Xi reaffirmed China's commitment to managing bilateral relations based on the principles of "mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation." He added that both nations stand to gain from each other's successes and that continued partnership would serve both countries and the broader international community. (ILKHA)
