The Israeli military has launched large-scale air raids, claiming to target Hezbollah positions, in an escalation of the cross-border conflict that has been ongoing since October of last year. The violence has intensified since the start of Israel's war on Gaza, which began after a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

Hezbollah and Israel have exchanged fire regularly in the past weeks, further complicating the already tense regional situation. The total number of Lebanese casualties has now reached at least 1,640 killed and 8,408 injured.

The latest wave of airstrikes follows the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killedin an Israeli strike in Beirut's southern suburb last Friday.

International observers have raised concerns that the Israeli military campaign in Lebanon may escalate the Gaza conflict into a broader regional war, as the death toll continues to rise and tensions remain high across the region. (     ILKHA)
