West Nile virus death toll rises in Greece

The death toll from West Nile virus (WNV) in Greece has risen to 30, according to the National Public Health Organization (EODY). Three additional deaths were reported between September 18 and 25.

All of the deceased patients were over 60 years old, with an average age of 81. During the same period, 12 new domestic cases of WNV were diagnosed, while four imported cases were identified in individuals exposed to the virus in Albania and Austria.

Since the beginning of the year, Greece has recorded a total of 192 domestic WNV cases, with 143 of these affecting the central nervous system.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and urge the public to take necessary precautions. (ILKHA)
