Typhoon Yagi swept through the region over a week ago, causing widespread flooding and landslides that have resulted in hundreds of fatalities across northern Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar.
In Myanmar alone, the junta's information team reported 384 deaths and 89 missing as of Saturday. The United Nations has issued a warning that the typhoon has affected an estimated 887,000 people in the country.
The UN's humanitarian agency (OCHA) stated on Saturday that the most severely affected areas in Myanmar remain devastated, with widespread destruction of homes, essential belongings, water sources, and electricity infrastructure. Roads, bridges, communication networks, schools, public services, religious sites, and crops have suffered significant damage or complete collapse. (ILKHA)
