In a press release, the ministry stated: "We condemn the signing of a roadmap for enhancing bilateral defense cooperation between the United States of America (USA) and the Greek Cypriot Administration." Türkiye expressed its agreement with the stance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and fully supported the "justified reaction" from TRNC authorities.
The ministry emphasized that the recent moves by U.S. authorities, including the launch of a strategic dialogue with the Greek Cypriot Administration last June, threaten the security of Turkish Cypriots. It argued that these actions undermine the neutral role that the U.S. has traditionally held concerning Cyprus and complicate efforts to achieve a fair, lasting, and sustainable resolution to the Cyprus issue.
"We believe that policies that could undermine regional stability should be reconsidered," the ministry added, calling for a reevaluation of steps that might heighten tensions.
Türkiye reiterated its commitment as a "Motherland and Guarantor state" to ensuring the security and well-being of the Turkish Cypriots under all circumstances, underscoring its protective role in the ongoing conflict surrounding the divided island. (ILKHA)
