The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced that the fugitive, wanted for a 1996 murder, was apprehended at a Moscow airport.

The suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, is accused of fatally shooting a man in a hotel on Varvarka Street in Moscow on December 15, 1996. The victim, reportedly an acquaintance of the attacker, was shot twice and died at the scene.

The perpetrator had initially evaded authorities, living under a new name in a different region. However, as part of renewed efforts to investigate unsolved crimes, Russian police conducted additional investigative and operational activities, leading to the suspect's arrest.

Authorities stated that the individual will now be transferred to the relevant unit for interrogation and further legal proceedings. The case is seen as a significant achievement in Russia’s long-term efforts to solve cold cases. (ILKHA)
