Azerbaijani parliamentary elections begin with over 6 million eligible voters

Polling stations opened across Azerbaijan on Sunday for the parliamentary elections, with millions of voters expected to participate.

The elections for Azerbaijan's parliament commenced today at 8:00 AM across the entire sovereign territory of the country. A total of 6,478 polling stations have been set up to accommodate voters from 125 constituencies, including 54 stations in the recently liberated territories where over 42,000 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots.

The Central Election Commission has made provisions for 6,421,960 registered voters to participate in the elections, with a total of 6,516,567 ballot papers distributed to polling stations.

A diverse array of 990 candidates are competing in this snap parliamentary election. Among them, 305 were nominated by political parties, 684 are running as independents, and 1 was nominated by initiative groups.

To ensure the transparency of the electoral process, 598 international observers from 69 countries and 51 international organizations have been accredited to monitor the elections. Additionally, 112,749 local observers have been registered. To further enhance transparency, webcams have been installed at 1,000 polling stations nationwide, streaming live on the official Central Election Commission websites. (ILKHA)
