The meeting comes after Ethiopia signed a deal with the breakaway region of Somaliland, sparking controversy with Somalia.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has been instrumental in mediating the dispute, holding talks with both sides.

Diplomatic sources indicate that the discussions will focus on finding a compromise that addresses the needs and concerns of both Ethiopia and Somalia. The meeting marks the second round of direct negotiations between the two countries, with the first having taken place in Ankara in early July.

Relations between Ethiopia and Somalia deteriorated after Ethiopia formalized an agreement with Somaliland on January 1, leading to increased regional tensions. Türkiye has since been actively involved in mediating between the two countries, seeking to foster stability in the Horn of Africa. (ILKHA)
