In a post on his official X account, Lazzarini highlighted the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict on children in Gaza. “An almost daily occurrence. At least eight schools hit in the last 10 days, including six UNRWA schools,” he stated.
Lazzarini condemned the attacks, emphasizing that the war has deprived the children of Gaza of their childhood and education. “Schools are not a target,” he asserted.
He further criticized the continuous violation of international humanitarian law in Gaza, noting, “All rules of war have been broken in Gaza.”
“Losing our common humanity must not become the new norm,” Lazzarini said, urging for adherence to international law and protection of civilians.
Lazzarini also shared a photograph depicting the destruction of an UNRWA school targeted by Israeli shelling. The school was serving as a refuge for internally displaced persons.
The Commissioner-General's remarks underscore the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where schools and other civilian infrastructure are frequently caught in the crossfire, exacerbating the plight of the population amidst the ongoing conflict. (ILKHA)
