In a statement on Wednesday, Barzani congratulated the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region for setting the date for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Region Parliamentary elections.

"We urge the political parties to consider the situation in the Kurdistan Region, to cooperate responsibly in fostering a democratic process, and to maintain stability and coexistence," Barzani stated.

This announcement follows confirmation from Dilshad Shahab, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, that President Nechirvan Barzani issued Regional Decree No. 222 of 2024.

The decree specifies that general elections for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Region Parliament will be held on October 20, 2024. It mandates that all relevant parties cooperate with the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq to implement the decree. The order takes effect immediately and will be published in the Official Gazette.

The decree emphasizes the need for political entities to collaborate to ensure successful elections and uphold democratic values in the region. (ILKHA)
