Iran pardons and commutes sentences of over 2,654 convicts for Eid al-Adha

This decision was made following a proposal submitted by Iranian Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei.

Ayatollah Khamenei's approval comes in celebration of two significant Islamic holidays. Eid al-Adha, known as the festival of sacrifice, honors Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God's command. Eid al-Ghadir commemorates an event during the Prophet Muhammad's final pilgrimage in 632 CE, where Shia Muslims believe he designated Ali ibn Abi Talib as his successor.
