According to a statement released by the prosecutor's office on Friday, both President Boluarte and Minister Ortiz are being investigated as "alleged perpetrators of the crime against public administration, specifically in the form of abuse of authority."
The investigation was launched shortly after Boluarte's administration deactivated an anti-corruption police unit that had been providing support to Eficcop, an entity responsible for corruption investigations.
Nicanor Boluarte, the brother of President Boluarte, was subjected to a 10-day preliminary detention by the national police. He is under investigation for alleged involvement in criminal organization and influence peddling.
The developments mark a significant escalation in the ongoing scrutiny of corruption allegations within Peru's government. (ILKHA)
