UN calls for investigation into mass graves at Gaza hospitals

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric emphasized the need for a clear, transparent, and credible inquiry, stating that credible investigators must be granted access to the sites. He also stressed the importance of allowing journalists to work safely in Gaza to report on the facts.

UN human rights chief Volker Türk expressed horror at the destruction of the Shifa medical center in Gaza City and Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, along with the reported discovery of mass graves in and around the facilities after the departure of Israeli forces. Türk called for independent and transparent investigations into the deaths, highlighting the necessity for international investigators given the prevailing climate of impunity.

Türk reiterated that hospitals are entitled to special protection under international humanitarian law and condemned the intentional killing of civilians, detainees, and others as a war crime. (ILKHA)
