According to eyewitnesses, at least five gunmen clad in camouflage and armed with automatic weapons stormed the concert hall as crowds gathered for a performance by the rock band Picnic. The attackers opened fire on the audience and detonated explosives, triggering a massive fire.
Russian authorities reported over 60 fatalities and approximately 145 injuries, with 60 of those injured in critical condition. Investigators are still working to determine the fate of the attackers, with no official confirmation on their escape or capture.
The ISIL group claimed responsibility for the attack through its Telegram channel. The claim could not be independently verified.
