The incident also wounded several others in nearby homes after rubble fell on them, according to Rizwan Qadeer, a senior government official.

Qadeer confirmed that four of the deceased belonged to the same family.

Building collapses are unfortunately a recurring tragedy in Pakistan. These incidents are often attributed to poor construction with cheap materials and a disregard for safety regulations in order to reduce costs.

This latest disaster follows a similar event in June 2020, where 22 people lost their lives when an apartment building collapsed in Karachi, Pakistan's most populous city.

As investigations into the Multan collapse unfold, authorities are under pressure to address the systemic issues contributing to such incidents and ensure the safety of residents across the country. (ILKHA)
