The tremor occurred at approximately 8:58 AM local time (5:58 AM GMT) and was centered in the Tuşba district, with coordinates of 38.91556 degrees north latitude and 43.47278 degrees east longitude. The quake originated at a depth of 7 kilometers (4.3 miles).
