The deluge, intensifying during the night, turned roads into rivers, making movement difficult for both pedestrians and vehicles. Homes and businesses in some rural areas were inundated, while underpasses in the city center overflowed, disrupting traffic flow. Transportation was also delayed in certain areas.
An "orange alert" for severe weather conditions was issued by the Antalya Governor's Office. As a result, schools in Aksu, Döşemealtı, Kepez, Konyaaltı, and Muratpaşa districts were closed for the day. Additionally, public employees with disabilities, pregnant women, those with chronic illnesses, and female employees with young children in these districts were granted administrative leave.
Daycare centers and nurseries were also shuttered, and courier services were suspended. Even Antalya's football club, Antalyaspor, was affected, with their flight diverted to another airport due to bad weather at Antalya Airport. They later returned by road.
The heavy rains highlight the vulnerability of Antalya to extreme weather events and the need for robust mitigation strategies. (ILKHA)
