The former Indian Navy personnel, including decorated officers, were employed by Dahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services in Qatar, providing training and related services to the Qatari armed forces.

Reports suggest that the men, accused of spying for Israel, were arrested in 2022 and subsequently sentenced to death in August the following year after being convicted.

The individuals were reportedly involved in a sensitive project related to the construction of midget submarines with stealth capabilities.

While Qatari authorities have remained silent on the case, India's Ministry of External Affairs revealed that the men's death sentences were commuted in December following an appeal.

Seven of the sailors have returned to India, while the whereabouts of the eighth sailor remain unclear.

Expressing gratitude, the Indian ministry welcomed the release of the nationals and appreciated the decision by the Emir of Qatar to enable their return home. (ILKHA)
