As of Monday, the confirmed death toll from the wildfire is 99, but Hawaii Governor Josh Green said that the actual number of fatalities could be much higher.

The wildfire has ravaged parts of Maui since last week, and the majority of the victims have been found outdoors, in vehicles, or near water in the hard-hit Lahaina area of western Maui.

Search and recovery teams are still working to find the missing, but communication breakdowns have made it difficult to track down everyone who is unaccounted for.

The exact number of missing people is unknown, but Governor Green said that it could be in the hundreds.

The wildfire has also caused widespread damage to homes, businesses, and historic landmarks.

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell said that the disaster has had a profound impact on the affected community and has taken a terrible toll on individuals and families.

The Maui wildfire is the deadliest in the United States in over a century, and it will take years for the community to recover. (ILKHA)
