According to the information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fidan and Guterres discussed the progress made in implementing the deal, as well as the challenges that remain.

Fidan also briefed Guterres on Turkey's efforts to facilitate the safe passage of grain ships through the Black Sea.

The Black Sea Grain Deal is an agreement between Russia, Ukraine, Türkiye, and the United Nations that was reached in late June. The deal aims to allow the safe export of grain from Ukraine, which is currently blocked by Russia's naval blockade.

Earlier on Monday, the Kremlin announced that Russia had halted its participation in a deal that allowed Ukraine to ship grain through the Black Sea to parts of the world struggling with hunger, dealing a blow to global food security after Moscow’s invasion last year sent prices soaring.

Fidan's phone conversation with Guterres comes as the world is facing a growing food crisis. The war in Ukraine has disrupted global food supplies, and millions of people are at risk of starvation. The Black Sea Grain Deal is seen as a key way to alleviate the crisis. (ILKHA)
