7.0 magnitude earthquake strikes Solomon Islands
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake has struck the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean, near the southwest region of Malango.
The epicenter of the earthquake was about 17km southwest of Malango at a depth of 10km, the United States Geological Survey said.
The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service said that “there is no tsunami threat to the Solomon Islands but expect unusual sea currents around most coastal waters.”
The agency urged people to be vigilant as “aftershocks are expected to continue”.
No injuries or deaths have been reported yet. (ILKHA)
