At least 18 people die in northeastern Brazil after deadly flooding hit region
The death toll from flash floods that have hit the Brazilian state of Bahia rose to 18, officials said.
The authorities in Jussiape and Itambe issued warnings of flash floods after two dams burst on Sunday.
Over 35,000 people had to leave their homes due to heavy flooding in the northeastern of the country, according to the civil protection agency Sudec active in Bahia state.
Governor Rui Costa said that the floods had affected about 40 cities throughout the state.
“In the recent history of Bahia, I do not remember such a great tragedy. Let's keep working and taking care of people,” Costa said. (ILKHA)
