The epicenter of the quake was 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) east-northeast of Los Órganos de San Agustín, about eight miles from the Pacific Coast beach resort city of Acapulco, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The alarms went off shortly before the ground started shaking in Mexico City, the country’s capital.

A tsunami warning was initially issued after the earthquake, but it has since been called off.

In Acapulco, just 3 km from the epicenter, a few buildings swayed and were damaged, there were also power outages and many gas leaks reported.

According to Héctor Astudillo, the governor of Guerrero, one person was killed in Coyuca de Benítez due to a falling pole.

At least 1.6 million customers in Mexico City and four other Mexican states did not have access to electricity. (ILKHA)
