The floods severely affected the Dereli district of Giresun province. Many houses were evacuated due to flood hazard in the districts.

Search and rescue crews from the Turkish Red Crescent, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and gendarme units were mobilized to find the missing people.

According local reports, Giresun-Sivas road was closed to transportation because of the overflow of the Aksu creek in the Dereli district.

Turkey’s Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, who moved to the region in order to supervise search and rescue operations, said that five gendarmerie officers and an excavator operator also went missing after a 5-meter high culvert collapsed from floods in the Tirebolu district of Giresun province.
