More than 1100 people were detained after anti-Sisi protests in several cities last weekend, according to Human Rights Watch.

Thousands of people who defied the ban took to the streets in several cities of Egypt, mainly the capital Cairo, last Friday demanded the resignation of coupist Sisi.

The head of Arab Human Rights Watch, Jamal Eid, said they have documented that more than 1100 people have been detained so far.

Egypt's Interior Ministry has not issued any statement on the detentions, but major protests are expected in the country in the coming days. (ILKHA)
