Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement about the recent attacks on mosques abroad.

The ministry said they are worried and saddened by the recent rising number of attacks on Muslim mosques in some Western European countries, namely in Germany.

Also warning that Islamophobia and xenophobia have reached more alarming level day by day the ministry noted it has become an issue that needs to be resolved immediately.

"It should not be forgotten that the protection of the freedom to worship and the sanctity of places of worship are under the responsibility of states," the ministry said.

"Bringing the perpetrators of the attacks which are submitted to the local police, to justice and ensuring the full security of the mosques will prevent further grave events in the future."

Saying that such attacks do not only target Muslims but also pose a common threat to all of humanity, the ministry said hate and intolerance have turned into a virus threatening the whole world.

"The international community should work together to completely wipe out this virus."

"Within this framework, the adoption by the General Assembly on 2 April 2019 of the resolution titled 'Combating terrorism and other acts of violence based on religion or belief', submitted to the UN under the leadership of Turkey, has been a crucial step.

"The implementation of this resolution by all member states will substantially contribute to the solution of the problem. Turkey will continue to lead international efforts in this direction." (ILKHA)
