Cyclone Idai, which hit in southern Africa since Thursday, has killed 150 people, while hundreds are still missing feared to death.

The United Nations predicts that more than one and a half million people were affected by the severe and massive hurricane in Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe.

In Mozambique and Malawi, at least 122 dead were reported, while Zimbabwean officials said on Sunday that 65 people lost their lives.

The hurricane, measured at a speed of 200 kph, caused great damage. Tens of thousands of people in the region have been disconnected from telephone communications, roads to rural areas have closed to access.

Rescue officials have said that 90% of Beira, a city of Mozambique, has been destroyed by the cyclone, warning that more than 500,000 people there have been impacted.

"Everything indicates that we can have a record of more than 1,000 dead," said President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique.

In the Chimanimani, area east of Zimbabwe, soldiers reportedly rescued 200 students and teachers from a school building that had been flooded and buried in the mud. (ILKHA)
