Russians experts in Turkiye did not admit 490 tons of orange and mandarin from being sent to Russia for having infected with Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata, which is banned by the Eurasian Economic Union EAEU.

During their visit to Adana, a Mediterranean province of Turkiye, on December 10-17, the experts identified harmful pest in 490 tons of citrus said Russian Agricultural Products Inspection Agency Rosselhozhnadzor.

The Turkish side characterized the actual situation as negative and explained that in 2018 in Turkiye, the weather conditions were particularly favorable for the development of the pest, the Mediterranean fruit fly -Ceratitis capitata-, and control measures taken by the farmers turned out to be ineffective.

Since previously the Mediterranean fruit fly was detected, 226 tons of citrus fruits were prevented from being sent to Russia. (ILKHA)
