In France, the government has stepped back due to the "yellow vests" protests broke out over fuel tax rises. French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced that the hike will be suspended for six months.

Prime Minister Philippe said in Paris that the issue will be discussed for a while with a moratorium to be made across the country and that the hike in fuel taxes will not be applied during this period.

Calling on protesters to stop violence, Prime Minister Philippe said the government is responsible for ensuring the peace and security of the state.

Demonstrators who carried out protests in many places, including the capital Paris, calling themselves "yellow vests", set fire workplaces, burned vehicles and caused much damage in the country.

Many demonstrators were injured during the protests where police used disproportionate force. (ILKHA)
