Iran blames US for attack

A military attack carried out in the city of Ahvaz in southwestern Iran during the military parade. Iranian officials announced that at least 24 people died in the attack. Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused the US and the regional supporters of the attack.

"Terrorists recruited, trained, armed & paid by a foreign regime have attacked Ahvaz," Zarif said in a tweet, adding, "Iran holds regional terror sponsors and their US masters accountable for such attacks.

"Iran will respond swiftly and decisively in defense of Iranian lives," Zarif vowed, adding, "children and journalists" were "among casualties".

At least 24 people killed while 60 others injured during gunmen attack the military parade in Iran's Ahvaz, said Iranian officials. At least 8 Iranian revolutionary guard reportedly are among those killed in the attack

The military parades were held in the country on the occasion of the beginning of the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war.

The attack, which started at 9 am local time, lasted about 10 minutes, said Fars News Agency. The fighters opened fire on a large crowd of spectators watching the parade in the southwestern city and then attempted to attack the viewing stand for official dignitaries before being shot and wounded by security forces, the agency added.

According to reports published in the Iraqi media, Iran has stopped cross at the Salamche and Meysan border gates for security reasons. (ILKHA)
