The "animal husbandry" continues to maintain its place on the agenda while the Feast of Sacrifice is approaching. Animal breeders in Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Stockyard expressed that wrong animal husbandry policies up to now brought the sector to the point of ending.

Since hay and feedstuff are expensive, producers express that they feed their animals indoors because they cannot find pastures so their animals can breed. They wanted support for cattle farming and 'sheep and goat farming' as soon as possible and the input costs to be reduced.

"If the state decrease the cost of hay and feedstuff; meal and livestock will be cheap"

"The policy of importing meat is useless. There should be feedstuff, barn and pasture support to the animal breeders. If the state decrease the cost of hay and feedstuff; meal and livestock will be cheap," says animal breeders.

Complaining about high prices at the stockyard, Murat Yalçınkaya, one of an animal breeder, said, "These prices are really high for our region. Animal husbandry has improved in our region a few years ago. At this time, there is a serious decline in especially livestock breeding. The animal-meat of our region is good enough but less. Sometimes we hear that animals are imported. The meat of the animals growing in the region is much more delicious than the meat of the imported animals."

"There are not enough animals at the live animal stockyard"

Seyithan Karaköse says that he has been fattening since 1992. "At the moment, our sheep and goat are sold between one thousand and two thousand TL. The price of bovine animals is starting from 6 thousand liras to 15 thousand liras. Our producers are suffering from many issues such as hay, barley. Animal breeders cannot earn due to high prices. Some breeders have to feed their animals inside because there is a prohibition for some pastures. There are not enough animals at the live animal stockyard." (Hamza Adiyaman - ILKHA)
