The European Parliament announced Wednesday that will not send election observers to observe snap presidential and parliamentary elections that will take place in Turkiye on June 24.

EP's Democracy Support and Election Coordination Group Co-Presidents David McAllister and Linda McAvan in a joint statement said consequently the EP would comment neither on the process of election nor on the result that will be announced afterward. No individual Members of the EP has been mandated to observe or comment on this electoral process on its behalf, it noted.

"Therefore, should any member of the EP decide to observe these elections, he/she would do so on his/her own initiative and should under no circumstances through any statement of action, associate his/her participation with the EP," added the statement.

The EP also did not send observers to Russia and Azerbaijan elections this year.

Earlier the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe called on Turkiye to postpone the election that to be held on July 24 on the ground that the snap election does not meet the "European criteria in the current circumstances". (ILKHA)
