A new church was built on the ruined Mor Aho Monastery, which was located in the Gercüş district of Batman and was abandoned about a hundred years ago where no Assyrian living, with the support of Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek, the Prime Minister Responsible for the Economy.

The Mor Aho Monastery, which largely ruined due to the climate and nature conditions and its community has left the region about century ago, has been reconstructed much larger than its original size after three years of restoration work, and opened.

Governor Ahmet Deniz, AK Party Batman Deputy Ataullah Hamidi, Gercüş District Ünal Koç, AK Party District Chairperson Şefik Öner, Mor Gabriel Monastery Metropolitan Samuel Aktaş, Priest Daniey Savcı and institutional officials attended the opening ceremony of the Monastery in the village of Arica, where no Christian lives. After the speeches made, the monastery was opened. After 100 years, the Assyrians burned candles in the monastery. It was stated that the new monastery was built on an area of 3-4 times the size of the original, without being adhered to its original size in the restoration.

Spare no expense for the church built 10 km east of the Hasankeyf district center, where no Syriac lives. The 400-population village at the same time is the village of Mehmet Şimşek, Deputy Prime Minister responsible for the economy.

In the village, where one of the two mosques is unusable and the other needs restoration, it did not escape from the attention that the monastery was the only rectorate building. On the other hand, there are still some villagers in the region who have difficulty in transportation due to some roads being damaged, it is seen that the road leading to the church on a hill is about 500 meters away from the village of Arica was asphalted.

Priest Daniel thanked Mehmet Şimşek

Priest Edip Daniel, who is in charge of the monastery, thanked the Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek for his contribution to the construction of a new church on the old Mor Aho Monastery.

Daniel said that the monastery had been in ruins before, "This place has been ruined and it is very good to be restored. We thank Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek, Batman Governorate, Gercüş Governorate and Municipality for their support for this restoration".

Priest Daniel, who emphasized that there are no Assyrian in the village at the moment and that the Assyrians generally live in European countries, once again thanked Şimşek for his support for the construction of the church, stating that "it is important to repair the church even if only one Syriac comes." (ILKHA)
