United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urges Russia, Turkiye, and Iran, related to the rising violence and civil deaths, to keep their promises on East Gouta, to remain loyal to the principle of basic human right, including the protection of civilians.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a statement on Tuesday in New York that Secretary-General reminds Russia, Turkiye, and Iran that East Gouta was a part of de-escalation zone, and urged them to keep their promises.

Noting that around 400,000 people in Eastern Gouta were exposed to air strikes, artillery fire, and bombardment attacks, Dujarric said that because of the siege of the area by the Syrian Government forces, residents of this area are living under extreme conditions, including malnutrition.

A doctor working in the region on behalf of the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations (UOSSM), which supports the health institutions in East Gouta, said the situation is "disastrous" and "people have no place to escape. They are trying to survive but the hunger they are living with is very big," he noted.

"I am appalled and distressed by reports of the horrifying attacks against six hospitals in East Gouta over the past 48 hours, resulting in a number of deaths and injuries, and depriving thousands of men, women, and children of basic health services in the besieged enclave," said UN Syrian Coordinator Panos Moumtsiz. Panos also noted that those attacks unacceptable and warned all parties that attacks against medical facilities is prohibited under the international humanitarian law (IHL), which any such intentional attacks may amount to war crimes.

The Syrian army has been attacking East Gouta for days. The number of civilian people who were killed and documented by the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in about 48 hours of intense and insane shelling and bombardment in the Eastern Gouta; by hundreds of barrel bombs, missiles, raids, shells and artillery shell, and the casualties, 17 citizens including 5 children and 3 citizen women were killed on the evening of Sunday. In aerial, missile and artillery bombardments, 127 citizens including 34 children and 23 women were killed on Monday. In the aerial and ground bombardment, 106 citizens including 19 children and 16 women were killed on Wednesday. In the shelling on the areas, more than 1200 civilians wounded, including tens of children and women, some of whom are still in serious situations, and others have had permanent disabilities.

It is noted that the attacks in the region are the most intense violence seen since 2013 and that there are 50 children among the dead. The UN was in warn that the situation is out of control in the region. 10 towns and villages around East Gouta were reported to targeted new attacks. UN called for a ceasefire for the removal of the casualties and for the delivery of aid. The Syrian Army has not yet commented on the news of the deaths from East Gouta, but it has been expressed that "sensitive attacks" have been carried out on the areas.

An aggressive response came from the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF). "Words are insufficient for killed children, mothers, fathers and lovers," believers are words," UNICEF Executive Director Geert Cappelaere said. (ILKHA)
