The statement made by the Ministry of Health, a study was made by the General Directorate of Public Health on the news in the press about the presence of zika virus disease in Turkiye.

A virus transmitted primarily by Aedesaegypti and Aedesalbopictus type mosquitoes, said in the statement, causes Zika virus disease and that it was found the first time with Rhesus monkeys in Uganda in Zika Forest in 1947. 

"Then it was isolated from mosquitoes in the same forest in 1948 and from humans in Uganda and Tanzania in 1952. The disease is currently seen in tropical Africa, Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, Central and South America. Four cases identified in 2017 in our country. They took the virus during their visit to Cuba, so they are not domestic cases but imports," read the statement. (ILKHA)
