US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made statements to the press.

Speaking about the news that 30,000 strong border force consist of the US affiliated YPG to be established in Syria, "That entire situation has been misportrayed, misdescribed. Some people misspoke. We are not creating a border security force at all," said Tillerson.

The US' intention in Syria is "to provide training to local elements in the region retaken from DAESH" claimed Tillerson added, "We have DAESH still attacking parts of northwest Syria and along the Euphrates valley, so this is just more training and trying to block DAESH from their escape routes," Tillerson told reporters.

The statement came after the top U.S. diplomat met with Turkish Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu on the sidelines of the Vancouver meeting.

Tillerson said the U.S. recognizes Turkiye's "humanitarian contributions and military sacrifices" in Syria, adding that Washington needs Ankara's "close cooperation" in achieving a new future for Syria that ensures security for Syria's neighbors.

The Pentagon said the SDF force is not a new "army" or conventional "border guard" force. "The U.S. continues to train local security forces in Syria. The training is designed to enhance security for displaced persons returning to their devastated communities," said Pentagon in a written statement.

"We are keenly aware of the security concerns of Turkiye, our Coalition partner, and NATO ally. Turkiye's security concerns are legitimate. We will continue to be completely transparent with Turkiye about our efforts in Syria to defeat DAESH and stand by our NATO ally in its counter-terrorism efforts," read the statement. (ILKHA)
