"More than 13 million people inside Syria still need humanitarian assistance," said UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock, including the 6 million people who have the problem of the finding of food, drinking water, medicine, and shelter.

Participating via video connection from Jordan to the UN Security Council session, Lowcock drew attention to the effects of the crisis in Syria, noting that it is still too deep, said that nearly 3 million people live in regions where there is no access for humanitarian workers.

According to UN data, in the January-September period of 2017, approximately 1.8 million people left their homes and emigrated towards inside of Syria. 6,1 million over the past year, while IDP returns, especially of those temporarily displaced, have been increasing in some parts of the country. Lowcock said that more than 5 million people also took refuge in neighboring countries.

Noting the condition of the 50 thousand Syrian refugees on the border with Jordan, Lowcock said: "As limited commercial supplies are reaching Rukban, access to food is precarious and the overall situation remains dire."

Jordan closed the Syrian border in June of 2016 following the DAESH assault on 7 border security officers. There are 660 thousand Syrian refugees registered in Jordan. Jordanian Foreign Minister in a statement last month said that Jordan is not responsible for the Rukban camp, but the international community, and had rejected the requests for opening the border. (ILKHA)
