The trial of 23 arrestees, a number of 67 defendants including former police chief Mithat Aynacı who was caught in the tank during the coup attempt of FETO on July 15, 2016, related to invasion attempt on Istanbul Police Department and martyring 5 citizens in Esenler Birlik Bridge, is starting today.

The trial of the defendants who are sued will begin in the courtroom opposite the Silivri Penal Execution Institutions Campus.

Including the former police chief caught in the tank Mithat Aynacı, 2 police officers, 21 ranking officers, which 23 prisoners, the trial of 67 defendants will start in Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court.

As will be remembered, former Istanbul Security Branch Chief Mithat Aynacı was arrested and detained by military officers in a tank in Vatan Street in Istanbul during the July 15 coup attempt. Aynacı was among the soldiers who wanted to seize Istanbul Security Directorate with the alleged knowing the building plan of Istanbul Security Directorate in details. Aynacı was the security branch manager during the "gezi" events in Turkiye. On November 1, 2014, Aynacı returned to his profession as a result of his lawsuit, which he had been expelled from the profession linked to FETO, but had not been given a new assignment. (ILKHA)
