President Masoud Barzani who made a statement following the "independence referendum" held in Iraqi Kurdistan, said those what have done to the people who committed no crime is contrary to the Iraqi Constitution.

Barzani said that the violations against the Kurdish people are the violation of right and contrary to the Constitution of Iraq, "Our people have been faced with the attack, blockade and collective punishment after the people of Kurdistan peacefully expressed their desire to determine their own fate, which is legitimate and natural right of every people. The Iraqi government is trying to punish Kurdish people under the name of 'legal necessity' who have committed no crime and only explains their opinion. This collective punishment against our people, violation of all borders, is against the law and the Constitution of Iraq. At the same time, they are trying to break the honor of our people, by forcing their ideas over weapons and war."

Barzani pointed out that more than 150 thousand people were forced to flee, "This situation has caused the destruction of people's lives and the migration of more than 150 thousand people. I call on all people in the world who have the conscience, public opinion, and freedom defenders to pressure their governments to prevent another genocide and disaster which is befalling our nation."

"Governments have, due to their interests," said Barzani and stated that: "Governments are at your side." said Barzani description of said at continued: "The people of Kurdistan and the Peshmerga paid prize instead of the whole world at war against Daesh. I, therefore, call on you to prevent this war-mongering, murder, violations and the fleeing of people, committed by the Iraqi government through its militia forces and in cooperation with foreign assistance and guidance against Kurdistan."

"We call on all Kurds in Europe and America to stage protests and engage in civil activities in a legal and peaceful manner to garner support for our nation. I call on you to convey the repressed voices of Kurdistan and our nation's message of peace to the world," he stated. (ILKHA)
