Speaking in the 9th Summit Meeting of the D-8 Emerging Developing Countries, President Erdoğan said, "Our brothers and sisters in Africa are still unable to meet their even most basic needs in a world where there are this much production and wealth. The global injustice is on the rise, not on the decline."

A summit family photo was taken before the opening session. Joining the family photo along with President Erdoğan were Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi of Pakistan, the D-8's Term President; President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan; President Alpha Conde of Guinea; President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria; First Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri of Iran; Vice President Jusuf Kalla of Indonesia; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Ahmad Zahid Bin Hamidi of Malaysia; State Minister Mohammed Shahriar Alam of Bangladesh; and Deputy Foreign Minister Hamdi Sanad Loza of Egypt.

Representatives of the participating nations proceeded to the opening session of the Summit, which was held with the theme of "Expanding Opportunities through Cooperation," after the family photo was taken. President Erdoğan made a speech at the session, which kicked off with the recitation of Holy Quran.

Commencing his remarks by expressing his happiness to host 7 esteemed members of the D-8, which has representations in three continents, in Istanbul, which bridges continents, cultures, and hearts, President Erdoğan said: "I remember with grace the late Prime Minister Necmeddin Erbakan, who led the establishment of the D-8."

"Global injustice on the rise"

Voicing his wish for the summit to lead to favorable outcomes at a time when "we are living through a highly turbulent period in terms of global and regional developments," President Erdoğan said: "When founding the D-8, we said let there be peace instead of war, dialogue instead of conflict, and justice instead of double standards. We envisioned that equality prevails over superiority, sharing overexploitation, human rights, freedom and democracy over oppression."

President Erdoğan noted that "the developments that have taken place over the past 20 years across the world prove how right our concerns were back then," and continued: "We have all seen how deep wounds the wars, terror incidents, economic crises and natural disasters have caused over the recent years. We have all stood witness to the anguish of our friends and brothers in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Syria, Rakhine and Indonesia. The current global system, which was founded in the aftermath of the WWII and consolidated following the cold war, has satisfied no one except for a handful of a happy minority whose interests were already secured. We have come up until now with economic crises erupting every ten years. Our brothers and sisters in Africa are still unable to meet their even most basic needs in a world where there are this much production and wealth. The global injustice is on the rise, not on the decline."

"Anyone with a different language, religion or ethnic identity is being otherized over the refugee issue"

"We are going through a period when terror threat knows no distance but terrorists are differentiated as good and bad," President Erdoğan underscored and stated: "Some people are intentionally trying to associate Islam with terrorism, Muslims with terrorists. They are using the murders committed by such herds of murderers to nurture Islamophobia. Anyone with a different language, religion or ethnic identity is being otherized over the refugee issue."
