According to the commission of the Kurdistan Region High Election and Referendum, the participation in the independence referendum held in Iraqi Kurdistan Region yesterday recorded as 72.16 percent.

Polling procedures started at 08.00 local times until 19.00 hours. In addition, 4 million 581 thousand 255 people have the right to vote in the referendum while 3 million 305 thousand 925 people have voted.

It is recorded that 98 thousand 945 voters who live outside the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and registered in the electronic environment have voted.

Shirwan Zirari, spokesman for the Kurdistan Region Independent High Electoral and Referendum Commission made a press release on the referendum that there are 3 million 985 thousand 120 people who live outside of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq (KRG) but live in the different parts of Kurdistan have right to vote in the referendum.

Zirar added that the data in media should not be trusted.
