Emphasizing that the U.S. has delivered via Iraq more than 3 thousand trucks of weaponry and ammunition to the PYD/YPG terrorist organization in Syria including tanks, artillery, and armored vehicles, President Erdoğan asked, “Who can guarantee that these heavy weapons which are being dispatched to Syria today will not be used against us tomorrow?”

Underscoring that the PYD/YPG, with which the U.S. is working together against DAESH, is a terrorist organization since it is an extension of the PKK, President Erdoğan said: “I cannot understand that a country which believes in democracy is trying to eradicate a terrorist organization through cooperation with another terrorist organization.”

“I'm telling you the truth I believe. I wish for unity in common affairs. For example, support to terrorist organizations from Iraq to Syria is over 3 thousand trucks. Who can guarantee that these heavy weapons which are being dispatched to Syria today will not be used against us tomorrow?” and continued: “As Turkiye, we have this concern and it must be addressed.”

“I hope that they give up this decision until 25th of the month”

In answer to a question about the IKRG’s independence referendum, President Erdoğan recalled that Turkiye’s National Security Council (NSC) meeting was brought forward to Sep. 22 from Sep. 27, and said: “The NSC will submit its recommendation on this issue to the government. And the government will make its decision at the meeting of the Council of Ministers, after which we will reveal our decision.”

It is impossible to allow the proclamation of an independent state in northern Iraq, President Erdoğan underlined and added: “Not only Kurds live in northern Iraq, but also Turkmens and Arabs. No one has a right to disrupt their unity. The only supporter is Israel. I have seen this through negotiations we have made here. I hope that they give up this decision until 25th of the month. ”

S-400 agreement

Responding to criticisms about Turkiye’s purchase of S-400 defense systems from Russia, President Erdoğan said that no one is raising an objection to some NATO members which possess weapons more powerful than S-400s or who even possess nuclear weapons.

“Since there are S-400s in Syria next to our border, it is imperative for us as well to make efforts to obtain S-400s, and even S-500s, or S-600s. These are steps we must take for our own defense. As the leader, it is our duty to ensure the protection of Turkiye’s 80 million citizens. We will do whatever is necessary to this end. We will take care of our own business if we can’t get the arms we want from NATO countries,” the President stressed. (ILKHA)
