The story of laborers heart breaking, who went to Sakarya to collect hazelnuts and lost their lives in a painful tractor accident. Some of them to earn money for bread, some for supporting their families, some for education expenses, and others for carrying out their dreams and lost their lives.

Leyla Boz who lost her 38-years-old husband and her 18-years-old daughter said that they went to work to build a new house for the family.

“We regretted that we went but it didn’t happen to return”

Reminiscent of four of her children wounded in the accident, mother Boz said: “15 days ago we went to collect nuts with my husband and children. My husband said to me once, ‘I want my children own a house, I want to build them a house before I get old.’ We went because we are poor. I was staying in the tent and I was cooking for them. My daughter Gulistan's hand's skin was all cracked, so she did not go work that day. The living condition there was very difficult. My husband said, ‘as if we came to the war, how the life is this here?’ My husband regretted going away. He asked the job holder to count their salaries so we would come back. But it didn’t happen, we couldn’t come back. In the meantime, the tractor was broken, they gave it to him. My husband called the boss in the evening. ‘The tractor is broken’ he said. They said, ‘no, you will take them to the farmer.’ My daughter and my husband passed away, my other 4 children were also injured. I and my little boy Onur survived because we were not in the tractor. We did not know, we would not go if we knew that this catastrophe would happen. My daughter was saying ‘daddy let’s not go.’ So fate dragged us there.”

“We did not believe before we see his funeral”

Faruk Boz's brother Çetin Boz, who stated that they were destroyed when they heard the incident and they could not believe without seeing his brother's funeral, said: “My brother went to Sakarya Hendek to collect nuts 15 days ago. That day we went to work, we did not know. My brother and his 18-years-old Gulistan lost their lives in the accident. Also, his 2 daughters and 2 sons were injured. We did not believe such a thing until we saw the funeral. He house is bad, so he had a house dream. Unfortunately, his dream did not come to the real.”

Claiming ‘negligent’ in the accident

Çetin Boz, who claims that there is a serious negligence in the accident, was called to the authorities to investigate the cause of the accident. Boz said, “Tractor's brake was broken. I'm calling to the authorities; they should investigate this. 7 lives have gone, it is negligent, they should investigate.”

As it will be remembered, on August 18, the tractor carrying the Mardinian hazelnut workers in the town of Hendek in Sakarya was overturned and left Şengül Akman (50), Nildanur Akman (13), Çiçeği Çapat (39), Bahar Çağatay (15), Bedran Çağatay Faruk (38) and Gulistan Boz (18) death and 10 other people injured. (M.
