High efficiency in the "Alternative Product Project"

The vegetable garden established by GAP Regional Development Administration and Midyat Chamber of Agriculture in order to disseminate income-generating alternative agricultural products within the scope of GAP-TEYAP was introduced. Within the scope of the project, ’Field Day’ was organized in the village of Kayalıpınar (Mıkrê), which was selected as a pilot region, on the field of tomatoes, aubergines, and peppers established in the field of 5 thousand square meters by farmer Reşit Aktekin.

Within the scope of the project, 70 percent grant support is given to the farmers and a sample garden is provided and high yields are provided. Mehmet Beşir Evsen, President of Midyat Chamber of Agriculture, GAP-TEYAP Batman-Mardin Provincial Field Supervisor Sabahattin Tüzün, GAP-TEYAP Mardin-Şırnak Provincial Field Supervisor Şahin Karahan, Food Agriculture and Livestock District Directorate, Agricultural Engineers, Neighborhood Headmen and Farmers attended. 

GAP-TEYAP Mardin-Şırnak Provincial Field Officer Şahin Karahan made explanations to the press members about the project, said, “We, as GAP administration, have signed a protocol for breeding alternative crops for 3 years under the supervision of agricultural advisors within the Midyat Chamber of Agriculture. We grew vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, and aubergines together with our farmers in the form of demonstration (practical agricultural education). When we look at the results of our work, we see that we have a high yield. We aim to transfer this work to all our farmers, thanks to these farmers.” (Süleyman Tunç - ILKHA)
