312 people lost their lives in the flood in Sierra Leone

Many homes in the city were buried in mud in Sierra Leone's capital city Freetown while at least 312 people lost their lives due to floods and landslides.

The authorities are worried about the rise of loss of life, while hopes shattering for the people of under the mud.

According to information, more than 100 houses were destroyed in the settlement areas west of Freetown. Hundreds of people reported missing.

Authorities say there is no place left in morgues because of the loss of life. Muhammad Sinneh, the morgue worker at Connaught Hospital in Freetown, said 180 bodies were brought to the hospital where he is working. Sinneh noted that the majority of those who lost their lives are children.

The rainy seasons in West Africa cause frequent floods and landslides due to the destruction of forests and bad city planning. The cataclysm in Sierra Leone has been recorded as one of the deadliest flood in Africa over the past 20 years. (ILKHA)
