Şeyhmus Alpsoy, a sick prisoner who had been detained for 17 years because of his Islamic identity, underwent colon cancer surgery at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital on Thursday, July 13th.

After 8 hours of surgery, a bag was placed on both sides of his body and after 10 days of observation, he was sent to the hospital in the Sincan Closed Prison campus. Alpsoy's wife said that despite the fact that her husband has been taken to prison, has not been taken back to the hospital for 15 days.

Suat Alpsoy, who reacted the situation of her husband Şeyhmus Alpsoy who not being taken to the control, stated that her husband was not taken to the control because the soldiers were sent to the ongoing FETO cases.

“Hospital appointments are being canceled as soon as the court season starts”

Alpsoy said they do not know what they can do in the face of the situation, “My husband should be taken to the control in the first week, but he wasn’t. ‘We will take him to the hospital,’ they said but we still don’t know if he was taken to the doctor or not. We want my husband to be taken to the control this week. Due to the beginning of FETO cases, soldiers are absent, so they do not take patient prisoners to the hospital. The soldier themselves are doing this. They do not care if the patient will die or not.”

“We are at where words fail”

Emphasizing that her husband’s condition is not suitable to stay in the prison, Alpsoy said, “The authorities have been blind and deaf in the face of what we have experienced. They are doing anything to not hear our voice. We left everything to Allah. We have our only desire that they release my husband from the prison. There are people who ask me about my husband's condition, and they surprised when I tell them that my husband is in prison and ask why he is still in prison. Treatment of this disease lasts for 5 years. The doctor says we are at the beginning. God knows everything, but we want my husband to spend his last days of his life with his children. Double standards shouldn’t be done. We do not know what to say anymore, we are where the words fail. If the authorities do not do this, we refer them to Allah.”

“I have a physically and mentally handicapped child, I do not know whether I should go to look after my husband or my child”

“My husband is having difficulty meeting his needs. There are bags on both sides. My husband alone cannot change the bags on both sides. Someone has to be with him and help him to meet his needs. I also go there to help him but I have a physical and mentally handicapped child. I do not know whether I go to look after him or look after my child. I do not know what I can do anymore.”

Both father and son Alpsoy, who has been in prison for 17 years, are both seriously ill. No step was taken by the competent authorities despite the public reaction that father Mehmet Emin and his son Şeyhmus Alpsoy are not suitable to stay in prison because of their illness.
