2 thousand 397 immigrants lost their lives this year in the Mediterranean

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) gave information on immigrants who lost their lives in the Mediterranean since the beginning of this year in a statement made in Geneva.

In the statement, it is stated that 2 thousand 397 immigrants have lost their lives since the beginning of this year in the Mediterranean, and the number of immigrants who have lost their lives so far has reached 3 thousand 408.

The International Organization for Migration noted that immigrants lost their lives most in Italy off. By July 30, 2017, the number of lost immigrants in Italy off was 2 thousand 221, while the number of deaths in Spain off was 120, and the number of deaths in the Aegean Sea between Turkiye and Greece was 45.

According to statistics, the majority of immigrants are drowning in their journeys to Europe with unsafe boats or vessels, losing their lives. The number of immigrants who have left their country since the beginning of this year to reach any port in Europe is 114 thousand 287.
