Presidency of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez made a farewell speech after the retirement.

Speaking in the farewell program organized by the Religious Affairs Presidency Conference Hall, Görmez said, "I am living the bliss of leaving this dignified position that I have been carrying out for 7 years with the peace of mind. Like everyone, I had deficiencies during my duty.”

Görmez said, “I ask forgiveness and I forgive everyone. Of course our responsibility, the mission continues even when I leave the duty. I am as responsible as a member of the Ummah same like I was responsible when I was the president of Diyanet. My responsibilities have not changed. I know that I am obliged to do same. There is no man of religion in Islam, everyone is the man of religion.”

Görmez said that they are trying to fight sincerely against the Islamophobia that threatens the world peace as they stand against the poisonous and harmful currents that emerged in the Islamic world which they never related to Islam. Turning the Islamophobia hatred that invades the Western is the idol to turn into mercy is the greatest duty of the new Diyanet.

Görmez continued as: “The separatist religious rhetoric, repetition, and discrimination that surrounds our geography should never approach the altar of the Diyanet. I have the faith of the Religious Affairs Organization will never allow it. Diyanet will continue to embrace our brothers and sisters of different believers whom we share the same homeland, land and air, especially our Alevis citizens, without deviating from the people of the Sunnah.”
